Meet Your Candidates: a local elections hustings event.

With the 2019 Local Elections just a couple of weeks away, we invite you to meet with candidates, ask them any questions you may have about their campaigns and policies, and have a chance to discuss issues that you feel are important in the area.

The team from Dublin Inquirer will be there to present a brief overview of their recent Citizen’s Agenda initiative.

A4 Sounds studios lies just on the cusp of the Cabra-Glasnevin local electoral area, nearly bordering with the North Inner City ward. We’ve invited candidates from both electoral areas to participate.

Each candidate will briefly present their vision, followed by a Q&A, and there’ll also be opportunity before and after for attendees to meet and mingle with candidates face-to-face, and bring up any issues they’d like to see addressed in person.

The list of candidates confirmed so far is as follows:

We’ll update this list as and when we receive any further confirmation. Many thanks to the candidates for taking the time to take part.

Sandwiches, snacks and refreshments will be served.

Doors 7:30pm

Free admission

A4’s Art 4 Refugees! Get Involved!

From the 5th to the 8th of November A4 and Paper Panther are hosting an art exhibition and auction in aid of the current refugee crisis – with proceeds being split between Global Giving‘s refugee relief fund and to aid the Civic Centre in the Calais Jungle. We’ve created an event page here where you can keep track of things!

The show opens on Thursday the 5th of November at 19:00, and features a raffle, with a host of prizes up for grabs. Raffle tickets will be available to purchase on-line before the event, as well as on the night itself. The exhibition is open to the public for the following two days from 10:00-20:00, with the auction itself occurring on Sunday the 8th of November from 13:00-17:00.

In the coming weeks we will be photographing the artwork, putting together an online catalogue and building and prepping our venue space for the exhibition.
Our participating artists come from all backgrounds, including but not limited to: illustration, animation, photography & sculpture – and there’s still room for more!

For anyone who know might be interested in submitting artwork the main guideline is that the piece is ready to display, i.e. has a frame/presentation box, otherwise we are open to all mediums and approaches. The pieces may be pre-existing, though originals are preferred where possible (submissions due by the 26th of October). We shall be offering up T-shirts, prints and other consumables as raffle prizes too!

If you are interested in contributing to the show, volunteering or donating raffle prizes you can fill out this handy form below:

Summer’s end BBQ and Chinstroke Records Tropical Yard Party Preview

To celebrate the end of summer, and bid farewell to all the, eh, rain and clouds and thunderstorms that it brought, we’re once again throwing open the gates of A4 Sounds studios for a tropical barbeque and stompin’ yard party. And you’re invited!

Not content with the prospect of providing everyone the tastiest tropical barbequed foodstuffs and finest thirst-quenching punch, we’ve also lined up a programme of entertainment to keep everyone thoroughly and suitably entertained. We’re delighted to team up with Chinstroke Records, purveyors of pop parody, originators of novelty music genres and all-round sensational combination of rave party antics, internet meme overload and pure comedy gold. Or, as a tongue-in-cheek mission statement on one of their web spots would have it, “forging new connections between the nodal points of sound, art and thought” – a spot-on parody of chinstrokey record label pretension.

Topping the bill for our real-life showcase of internet famous DJs is none other than croissant affecionado and musical pioneer DJ Detweiler, the creator and executor of “flutedrop”, an unholy amalgam of remix culture and recorder solos, and year-long internet sensation, followed enthusiastically by legions of fans and marveled upon by commentators, celebrities and hip media outlets alike (check out this breathless feature from Thump last year!)

DJ Detweiler’s also been at the coalface of recent scuffles over at soundcloud between the zealous capitalist tendencies of Soundcloud, Inc and the major labels, and the more  plunderphonically inclined remixers and mash-up-makers who constitute a goodly portion of its use base over copyright vioaltion and take-downs.

The line-up also includes a special live “power tool ballads” set from DJ Dadmagnet, in which – you’ve guessed it – the familiar strains of famous power ballads are cunningly combined with the gnarly noises of popular power tools! Chinstroke’s mighty Queerhawk and Tek Fritz & Edwin Triumph will also be playing, along with A4 Sounds DJs, so expect a non-stop selection of banging tunes and zany hilarity, for our all-day BYOB yard party spectacular!

There’ll also be a chance to belt out some rave anthems in the form of Chinstrokin’ Karaoke – as well as cozy hammocks to hang out in (because every tropical barbeque needs hammocks). Tickets are available from our online shop here – and as our yard has extremely limited capacity, these tickets will be in similarly limited supply – book as soon as possible to avoid ridicule on the internet and life-crushing disappointment in real life!

And we know that some of you just like to keep going stronger and longer and wronger than everyone else, so for anyone who’s always the life and soul of the party, and beyond, we’ve organised an additional bonus aftersparty, for only an additional fiver, in a lovely BYOB latenight music venue just around the corner. You’ll be sad if you miss it – and tickets are available at the this handy link – once again, capacity is limited, so get in there super quick!

you wanna be on the other side of the gate22

A4 are also donating some of the money raised through our shop for tickets, classes and merch to The UN Refugee Agency.

A4’s Seasonal Shindig – with Patrick Kelleher, Big Monster Love, Andre K’Por and more!

Dust off your Christmas Jumpers and dig out your yuletide-related headwear, it’s time for the A4 Sounds Xmas Party!
Come one, come all, for a celebratory seasonal shindig wrapping up our year of toil and triumph with a night of eclectic performances in the intimate and comfy confines of our new favourite local establishment, Bleecker St Café Bar, just across from our studio.

Along with the best good cheer and much merriment, expect an evening of wondrous and varied home-grown songwriting and spoken-word talent, from the haunting and hypnotic sounds of Patrick Kelleher (featuring Brian Coniffe), to the poetic hybrid hop-hop performance stylings of Andre K’Por and a rare performance from the idiosyncratic anti-folk Dublin troubadour Big Monster Love. Meanwhile, DJ Dave Kelly will be taking us into the wee hours with his own brand of power pop delight!

All funds raised on the night will go towards installing workshop facilities for our members.

Doors €10 // €6 for A4 Studio Members

Patrick Kelleher

Dublin-based Patrick Kelleher has been making echo-drenched ghost pop since 2008. His performances, cryptic yet honest communications, are at once soberly engaging and eerily detached.
Evolving out of the frenzy of his Cold Dead Hands, the instrumentation of Kelleher’s solo act has been stripped to little more than his somnolent vocals, heavy beats and sporadic arpeggios.

Check out more of Patrick’s releases at or take a peek at the video above.

Big Monster Love
Big Monster Love has been called “the anti-folk poet of North County Dublin”, with a live show renowned for impromtu bouts of comical banter. His songs are sincere, enchanting and entertaining, with an unaffected lyrical style that takes in such lesser-spotted subjects as internet dating, 90s megamix discos and lots of local flavour. He can be one of only very few artists who’s been tricked into contributing to a tribute album to himself, compiled by Popical Island a couple of years back.

You can listen to his album “Game Over” at and poke around his previous releases here. Also check out the awesome stop-motion video for his cult anthem “Free Gaff Forever” above.

Andre K’Por

Andre K’por is a spoken word performer whose work bridges the gap between poetry and hip-hop. He was born in the city of Sarajevo a couple of years before the Balkans war, and has lived a relatively nomadic life since. Writing since the age of eight, and performing his work regularly in front of audiences since fifteen, he has established a distinct range of performance styles adaptable to a variety of settings, from the most prestigious festivals, to the dingiest of basements.

Wolf Visuals Now On Vimeo!

We have uploaded all the Wolf Visuals from our Wolf Party to Vimeo so you can have a gawk!!

Due to a massive power cut in the Dark Horse on the Night we could not show any of them. Even after a few hours changing fuses and calling in an electrician we could just get power from a few sockets 🙁

We will do it again with sillier visuals for our next fundraiser. Thanks to Maeve Brosnan and Lisa Crowne we have lots of brightly coloured and glittered T.VS ready to go!!

Thanks again to Wolfgang NoesArt;  Pauliina Jokenin, Maeve Brosnan, Donal Holland and Lisa Crowne for putting together the animations. I think you will agree you can’t tell who works in the industry and those that maybe just winged it the week before!!

Special Thanks to everyone that sent us wolf images

Photos from the First Public Oculus Rift Demo in Ireland at A4 Towers

This was one of the most fun events A4 Sounds has hosted. Thanks to everyone that came along you made the day and especially to Fabio for sharing his “toys” and letting everyone play.

The day was really informal, hands on with lots of screaming and laughing taking place. We met lots of lovely new and interesting people, we hope to see again. If you have something you want to demo, show off or share get in touch as there is definitely a great bunch of people to test your ideas on.

We have some videos of peoples reactions which better illustrate the craic that was had but we want to clean them up a little bit before putting them online. For now here are some photos.

If you missed the event but really really wanted to come along, Fabio will be back in a months time on his return to Ireland. Keep an eye out here or on Facebook for dates.
