Past, Passing or To Come brings Cypriot artists into creative dialogue with artists living and working in Ireland. Participating artists are Christina Shiakola, Eliza Pieri, Mandalena Miltiadi, Manuel McCarthy Valderrama, and Vassilis Vassiliades.
Drawing inspiration from Sailing to Byzantium by W. B. Yeats, the exhibition explores themes of transcendence, memory, and the passage of time, reflecting on the human desire for continuity beyond material existence.
Positioned at Europe’s geographical margins, Cyprus and Ireland—two islands shaped by layered histories and cultural encounters—are brought into dialogue through artistic exchange. The exhibition reflects on these parallel conditions, where separation and
connection coexist, and where identity is continually negotiated through memory and lived experience.
The exhibition coincides with the Republic of Cyprus assuming the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, highlighting culture as a space for dialogue and shared European values.
Past, Passing or To Come is realised with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Ireland and with the funding of the Deputy Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus, as part of the official programme of cultural actions marking the Cypriot EU Presidency.
