ABOUT

Curated by Adriano Pedrosa, The 60th International Art Exhibition, titled Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere, will open April 20th to Sunday November 24th, 2024. The Exhibition will take place in the Central Pavilion (Giardini) and in the Arsenale, and it will consist of two sections: the Nucleo Contemporaneo and the Nucleo Storico.

«The expression Stranieri Ovunque – explains Adriano Pedrosa – has several meanings. First of all, that wherever you go and wherever you are you will always encounter foreigners— they/we are everywhere. Secondly, that no matter where you find yourself, you are always truly, and deep down inside, a foreigner.»

Irelands representation – Eimear Walshe, with curator Sara Greavu and Project Arts Centre.

ROMANTIC IRELAND – a multi-channel video installation and an operatic soundtrack housed in an immersive earth-built sculpture. Eimear Walshe’s project explores the complex politics of collective building through the Irish tradition of the ‘meitheal’: a group of workers, neighbours, kith and kin who come together to build.

VIBE

This will be a very chill trip – feel free to go off and see lots of art or spend the whole time on the beach. There’s no set plans outside of getting there and back. We recommend 1 day of art, then a day off to digest, then back to it again!

We will probably eat mostly at the resort and arrange 1 or 2 nights to eat out as a group.

I’ve added links within the text above to anything you may need (flight info, accommodation etc) – If you have any further questions you can add them to the RSVP below or email members@a4sounds.org

NOTES ON ACCESS

The accommodation is on a large holiday resort. We have not stayed in this one before but from our experience of a similar resort nearby:

Depending of the location of the chalet there may be a 10-15 minute walk from reception. There will be a supermarket and cafes in and around the reception or beginning of the resort. Amenities including pools beaches etc will be around a 10 min walk from chalet.

The chalets themselves will be single storey, but may have steps onto terrace.

There will be a walk to the bus stop from reception which we need to confirm. Bus ride to water boat should be around 10 minutes. The waterboat should be around 40mins.

There will be a walk from the waterboat to the pavillions – we will confirm distance and add maps here soon. The streets of venice around the outside are flat but there will be walks over bridges. Some have steps and some have ramps. They may prove tiring for some people.

Towards the centre of venice the streets can be cobbled, busy and there will be bridges and lots of turns in around back streets. It can be difficult to navigate without google maps. It may be tiring for some to journey around on foot for long periods.

The pavillions themselves are very big. For the most part they are on the ground floor. There will be places to sit and take breaks throughout. There will be cafes and places to get drinks and snacks. In one pavillion they usually operate a golf cart which you can hop on an off on to bring you to different areas or the exit.

Offsite artworks will require navigating the city and require a lot of walking and using google maps.
