What is it?
Facility training for the Ceramics area at A4 Sounds; led by member Aideen Farrell. Aideen will show you the basics on how to navigate our facilities (such as the kiln) so you can use these them independently, with confidence.
In the first session on Tuesday the 4th of June (18:00 – 20:30), Aideen will show participants the steps involved in the making of making paper clay and how to work with it in the workshop to create some simple forms and pull reliefs from plaster bats. Once these pieces have dried between this first session and the second session on Sunday the 9th of June (9:30 – 11:30), you will then be shown how to fire these pieces; demonstrated using the A4 kiln.
Who is this training for?
This introductory course is suitable for anyone is interested in working with clay and using the kiln in A4. Training is mandatory before using this facility. Number of Participants: 8

What do you need? * Old clothes you don’t mind getting dirty * A simple line drawing to use in the demonstrated process * A notebook and pen to take notes

What will you learn? This is a workshop on how to use our specific equipment allowing you to access the facility confidently day to day by yourself.
You will be provided with basic knowledge of how to make and handle paper clay and use the kiln. Looking specifically at plaster block relief prints, and some basic experiments with form.

What you will not learn:
There will be no advanced skills such as throwing on a pottery wheel, glazing techniques etc. shown.

Skillsharing: If you have specific things you would like to learn we suggest practicing the basics on your own time first until you are confident, and then use online tutorials on YouTube or similar to up your skills.
We also encourage you to team up and share skills and tips. You can start a group in ‘Art Gangs’ or use this one to chat, share links and ask questions!
