ARTIST BIO
Yosef Phelan (he/him) is an Irish-Palestinian visual artist and illustrator based in Dublin. His work explores themes of identity, memory, location and belonging. Yosef’s practice spans across animation, painting, photography, and typography.
In his recent work, Yosef draws from intimate recorded conversations about his father’s experiences growing up in Palestine and the years thereafter. Using these as a starting point for narratives, Yosef’s work aims to immortalise and archive his fathers stories through the mediums of painting and moving-image.
Yosef holds a BA degree in Visual Communication Design from TU Dublin. His work has been exhibited internationally. He was awarded a D&AD Yellow Pencil and Best Use of Typography at the IDI Graduate Awards for his project Roads of Return (2022). He is a member of A4 Sounds Studios in Dublin.
