THE ORGANISERS

Elijah is an artist manager and music consultant by day, and a writer and DJ by night. In 2023 his project the ‘Yellow Squares’ explores creative sustainability with post it style notes on Instagram, Lectures around the world and at SOAS where he is a community fellow, on Billboards in London, in art installations, and in music. He spent 10 years running the Butterz music label, an operation focused on Grime which released music from producers Swindle, Royal-T, DJ Q, Flava D as it’s core, with guest appearances from MC legends JME, D Double E, Footsie, Flowdan, P Money and many more. The universe that the yellow squares have started to create has just begun, with Elijah’s influence directly shaping programmes for young people, music journalism, club nights, and the wider London creative scene

GASH COLLECTIVE is an Ireland-based platform focused on supporting female, trans, queer, non-binary and other underrepresented people in music production and DJing. GASH was founded on International Women’s Day 2016. Inspired by other like-minded initiatives around the world, notably Female:Pressure’s VISIBILITY project and ’FACTS’ survey, which revealed festivals, labels and clubs worldwide barely feature 10% of women. Through sharing ideas, collaborations, safe space initiatives, carefully curated parties and events, an ongoing mix series, as well as production and DJ workshops, GASH intends to shine a light on the marginalised talent that often goes unnoticed or unrecognised across the island of Ireland.

To date, GASH has taught numerous free workshops across Ireland, lectured in several universities, released two compilations, maintained a dedicated monthly mix series on Irish broadcaster Radió na Life and curated line-ups for both small, independent and large-scale festivals and events.

A4 SOUNDS | THE COMMON THREAD

The Common Thread forms part of our WOWTE Programme. It is a series of experiments and happenings that serve as an ongoing public discussion, drawing out shared themes and engaging audiences in an ongoing conversation about the goals and strategies of social change: what kind of society do we want and how should we get there?
