On Thursday the 4th of April at 4pm we are going to visit the IFI to take part in a tour! This tour will include time in the library where we’ll hear about the history of the Irish Film Institute, the origins and mission of the archive, and the composition of their collections. We’ll also be shown paper materials from some of their special collections. From there, we will head to the basement where film materials are processed. We’ll get an introduction to how they store and preserve film, the different types of film stock used over the last century, and some of the projects they’ve run over the last decade. We will also get a demonstration of a Steenbeck viewer.
Once we’re done with the tour, we’ll head to their outdoor bar area for art chats.
Accessibility: unfortunately the archive building does not have a lift, so accessing the basement will involve a flight of stairs. If this is an issue for anyone thinking of joining, IFI staff have let us know you are welcome to stay on with them in the library during the second half of the tour to avoid these stairs.
Please RSVP below to let me know if you are going so we can get an idea of numbers.
