MARX’S CAPITAL IN A DAY
Workshop & Discussion
Facilitated by Dónal Holland

Limited to 10 participants*

What’s the story with this Marx lad? And what is capitalism anyway?

As part of the launch series for We Only Want the Earth, we are thinking about what we should leave behind as we move forward to a new society. In the list of things to get rid of, capitalism is a strong contender. But what exactly is it? Why can’t it just be reformed? Why is it so prone to crises?

For 150+ years, Marx’s Capital has been a fundamental text for those who want to understand and critique the capital system. However, it can be a daunting book. This workshop and discussion is for people who are interested in reading the book but would like an overview to ease them in, or people who don’t want to read the book themselves but want to know what it’s all about, or people who are reading it and would like to discuss it with others. We will focus mostly on Volume 1. The basic concepts and arguments will be presented, and the attendees will participate in an informal discussion of the ideas covered.
