Join us on Sat 7th May at A4 Sounds for the album launch of IMPILO by Mark Sebata.
We’ll be kicking off at 3pm with music in the yard. Later in the evening the live performance will take place in the gallery!

IMPILO (LIFE) is an audio visual work produced by Mark Sebata on residency as part of our We Only Want the Earth Programme. The work comprises a 6 chapter film work and album. Working through RnB, Hip Hop, Soul Jazz, and AfroPop and drawing on Southern African and Irish influences. IMPILO explores social, cultural, economic, and political aspects of life. Through song and visuals Mark aims to tell stories that move between the personal and the universal human experience.
Mark Sebata AKA Blaq Apollo is an artist & musician living and working in County Galway working in music and video production. Mark began making music in 2006 in Zimbabwe where he received numerous awards including the Bulawayo Da grape vine Top 5 and was nominated as Best Zimbabwe hip hop newcomer in 2012 for his EP Bheka Thina Jo. In his work he uses music to tell stories about the struggles and joys of life. Mark writes in a vernacular combination of English and Ndebele and has performed extensively in Zimbabwe and Ireland including festivals such as Shoko (Zim) and Electric Picnic. He also works as a DJ and graphic designer. In 2021 he was the recipient of a Galway County Council Artist Bursary and an Artist in the Community Scheme Research & Development Award from Create.
Mark is the recipient of the A4 Sounds’ We Only Want the Earth Residency Award 3, 2020-2021
Travel costs for those living in direct provision will be covered by A4 Sounds. We will refund on your arrival to the event.
Social distancing measures and your safety:
All A4 Staff are fully vaccinated and will be adhering to social distancing rules.
To ensure the health and safety of our team and visitors we are asking anyone who has not been able to receive their vaccination yet to wear an N95 mask while indoors.
We reccommend taking an antigen test on the day before coming along to keep others in attendance safe. See here for antigen tests for €2 per test.
1. This event will be will take place both outdoors and indoors.
2. On arrival to the gallery we will ask you to sanitize your hands and wear a mask when indoors.
3. We will confirm your contact information for contract tracing purposes. This will be deleted after 30 days.
4. You will be invited to our yard where there will be DJs playing. The yard has seating and covered areas.
5. In the evening the live performance will take place in the gallery. It is a standing event and masks are to be worn for the duration. Drinks cannot be consumed in doors
6. Following the gallery performance you will be invited to our yard area again for final music and drinks

General Accessibility Information:
This event will take place in our gallery & our outdoor area. The gallery is wheelchair accessible. Our outdoor area is wheelchair accessible but some of the ground is uneven in places.
The gallery is approx a 5m walk from the front door.
Our outdoor area has wooden benches, stool seating and covered areas. It is adjacent to the gallery
Event Specific Information:
There will be music played on a PA system.
The event space will be lit with bright RGB and UV Lighting.
There will be projectors, and video playing at the event.
There will be one indoor performances which will use a microphone be amplified through a PA System.
There will be three outdoor performances with music amplified through a PA System
The live performance is standing, however if needed comfortable seating can be provided. The outdoor performances will be seated. TIf you require a more comfortable chair please let us know at the time of booking or email firstname.lastname@example.org. You can request a more comfortable chair at any time from staff at the front door if you need one while visiting.
Our bathrooms are gender-neutral.
Our bathrooms are not wheelchair accessible. They are located on the first floor via a flight of stairs (approx 22 steps) so may also be inaccessible for people with movement impairments.
