Kate-Bowe O’Brien is an artist and commercial photographer based in A4 Sounds Studios, Dublin. Kate’s artistic work explores the abstraction and manipulation of light through video, projection and analog photographic processes.
Kate graduated from Crawford College of Art and Design, Cork in 2010 and completed an MFA in Contemporary Art: Photography in Edinburgh College of Art in 2013. Kate’s most recent project, Amplitude and Artifacts (2014) is an audio-visual collaboration with synth-drone duo Hooker No.1 (Rory O’Brien / Graham Lynch). This experimental video piece had its Irish premier in the Triskel Arts Centre Cork in May 2014, opening for internationally renowned composer Ben Frost. It has since been screened at Indie Cork Festival, and at Bualadh, Urban Spree, Berlin.
Her photographic work has been included in exhibitions in Ireland and abroad including most recently Aeriform (solo show), The Ivy House, Dublin (2014), Leave the Capitol, The Fleming Collection, London (2013), Scattering – Gathering, Kilkenny Castle and Garter Lane Arts Centre, Waterford, Ireland (2013). Her work was also featured in publications Glass is More! (2013) and Prime Magazine (2014).
As a commercial photographer Kate specializes in art documentation, product and architectural photography. Kate has previously worked as a photography technician in Crawford College of Art, Cork, and Ballyfermot College of Further Education. She now manages the photography darkroom at A4 Sounds Studios.
