Kate-Bowe O’Brien is an artist and photographer. Kate manages the photography darkroom at A4 Sounds Studios, and she also works as the photography technician at DIT Grangegorman. Kate graduated from Crawford College of Art and Design, Cork and completed an MFA in Contemporary Art: Photography in Edinburgh College of Art in 2013. She is currently studying part-time at DIT on the Pg Dip in Third Level Learning and Teaching course.
Kate’s artistic work explores the abstraction and manipulation of light through video, projection and analog photographic processes. In recent years Kate has collaborated with sound artists and musicians to create audio-visual works. Her most recent project, Amissa Corpore (2017) is a collaboration with electroacoustic artist Terence Sharpe. Previous to that was audio-visual collaboration Amplitude and Artifacts (2014) with synth-drone duo Hooker No.1 (Rory O’Brien / Graham Lynch) which was screened at; Triskel Arts Centre Cork, Indie Cork Festival, and at Bualadh, Urban Spree, Berlin. Kate’s photography and video work has been in exhibitions including Meantime, Wandesford Quay Gallery, Cork (2017), Leave the Capitol, The Fleming Collection, London (2013), Scattering – Gathering, Kilkenny Castle and Garter Lane Arts Centre, Waterford, Ireland (2013). Her work was also featured in publications Glass is More! (2013) and Prime Magazine (2014).
As a commercial photographer Kate specialises in art documentation and architectural photography. Kate has previously worked as a photography technician in Crawford College of Art, Cork, and Ballyfermot College of Further Education.
