A4 Sounds presents is a series of gigs curated by Matt Hedigan at the A4 Sounds Gallery!

A4 is a Not For Profit Socially Engaged Organisation, we aim to support Irish Artists professionally in whatever capacity we can. From Dec 2018 we will curate bi-monthly music events at our gallery. We hope to build partnerships with Irish Musicians, with the aim to support each other’s work, i.e, provide a fair income for bands and generate some income for our gallery programme which supports numerous visual artists each year.

We understand that there is a culture of not paying musicians for their work. Larger venues set a bad precedent for smaller independent spaces by taking in €1000’s at the bar and not paying a proper wage. We also understand that these venues may also lower the cultural value of seeing live music by offering free or low cost tickets on the door. The knock on effect of this means those running independent gigs are forced to lower ticket prices and therefore wages for musicians. Most of the time these independent gigs can turn into a labour of love for the promoter and bands and eventually come to an end.

As our venue is a gallery and not funded, we will be depending on ticket sales. We cannot guarantee full fees for musicians but we will guarantee a starting basic fee for musicians which increases as tickets sales increase.

Tickets will always start at €15.

While we understand that this might be perceived as a high ticket price we believe that we should work towards changing the culture that musicians, independent promoters and small venues can afford to keep offering cheap gigs or worse to work long hours for free. We have played around with costs and ticket prices and in terms of risk and effort made on everyone’s part, €15 seems to be the most reasonable price.

We will offer reduced fees for those on lower incomes when possible.
