CAHOOTS | WE ONLY WANT THE EARTH WORKSHOP SERIES

Hello Everyone,

You are invited to participate in the next iteration of our studio exchange between A4 Sounds, Dublin, Engage Art Studios, Galway, and Sample-Studios, Cork.

A4 Sounds in collaboration with a number of guest artists have developed a workshop series under the theme ‘We Only Want the Earth’. This we hope will be an exciting way for you to engage with our programme and studio members across the three cities, and help you develop ideas for new work.

These workshops will begin on April 24th and continue until June. After the workshop series we will invite you to propose work for exhibition later in the year. This year our exhibition will have two strands:

1. Physical work in the gallery (up to 12 artists)
2. Digital work for broadcast online (number of artists TBC)

For those who would like to get started thinking of ideas; you can propose work for either strand 1 or strand 2 and you proposal must respond to the theme We Only Want the Earth.
Artists fees will be payable following the exhibition. Selected artists will be supported from proposal through to completion of work by fortnightly meetings and check ins by the curatorial team. Further information regarding proposals will be circulated in May & June.

Curatorial Team for Exhibition:

Lisa Crowne: Programme Producer
Kate O’Shea: Member Support
Eleanor Phillips: Consulting Artist
Andrew Edgar: Exhibtion Production & Broadcast Support
Lucia Pola: Digital Support and Website Design

For now we would like to introduce our June workshops below, we hope you can join us!

DEFENDING ART SPACES | with Community Action Tenants Union

Over the past 10 years there have been waves of artist studios and cultural spaces closures due to rent increases and property sales. Sample-Studios, A4 Sounds and most recently Engage Studios have experienced having to relocate as their buildings were sold off. Our galleries, studios & other cultural spaces have not escaped the precarity that permeates so much of Irish life these days and it’s worsening. Over the past 15 months we have witnessed further closures and currently most of our arts and cultural spaces throughout the country are at risk of rent arrears as a result of COVID-19. It's saddening & maddening - but let's take some time to talk about resistance. If it comes to it, can we stop our beloved spaces & homes from closing? This workshop will be run by CATU - Community Action Tenants' Union. CATU has branches across Dublin, Galway, Cork, Belfast & Kildare with several others on the way. https://catuireland.org/
